Police Investigating Shooting That Injured 14-year-old

DES MOINES, Iowa - A 14-year-old girl is recovering after being shot in the face Saturday night.

Police responded to the 400 block of Orchard Avenue at about 9:45 p.m. Saturday. The victim was transported to Mercy Medical Center for treatment. She is expected to survive, police said.

Investigators said the shooting appears to have been accidental. A 14-year-old boy has been charged as a juvenile with reckless use of a firearm causing injury.

No other information has been released.
