Iowa to See Extreme Heat, Storms Tuesday Night

A Heat Advisory is in effect from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday for the Metro and areas south of I-80. It will feel like 100 degrees by 3 p.m.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is also now in place for north Central Iowa until 11 p.m. The watch area is along and north of Highway 3. Thunderstorms with damaging winds, as well as large hail will be the main threat. Storms will eventually drop south after midnight, with strong storms and damaging winds possible into Wednesday morning east of I-35.

The Des Moines metro could also see a round of strong thunderstorms, after midnight, and more likely after 2 a.m.

The weather pattern remains active through early Friday with the best chance for storms overnight. The weekend is looking dry.
