DES MOINES, Iowa -- A new start-up in Des Moines is hoping to reach a new audience with a needed service. Move 24-7 is a new company hoping to make the process of moving quick, painless and affordable.
Move 24-7 is a new company hoping to make the process of moving quick, painless and affordable.
The concept is similar to Uber, using a network of movers to help customers move anything from a single item to an entire house or office.
"I think it’s a really good option, if you’re someone like me who doesn’t have a truck or someone who can’t get out during the week for something or if you’re trying to order a really huge object and you can’t move it," says customer Celeste Moreno of Des Moines.
Move 24/7 was created after Bill Catania realized it was going to take 10 days for his replacement refrigerator to be delivered.
"That for me was the moment I realized this entire delivery model is broken.”
The company can pick up and deliver items bought at a retail store, move a house or office, and even pick up and deliver an item purchased on a classified ad.
"With Move 24/7 it makes it so there`s not this uneasiness of going to someone`s house that you don`t know and somebody else will deal with it for you and bring it straight to you. It`s a lot more comfortable that way," says Moreno.
Canania says he's able to cut costs to the customer by about 50-percent by using a network of movers who use their own vehicles.
Customers say it's not just the cost but the same day delivery that is also an appeal.
"This generation and just the way things are moving forward, we’re very on-demand. We want it and we want it now and we don’t want to wait for it," says customer Sara Danilson of Grimes.
Danilson has used the company twice in the last week.
"It was quick, it was great, they were on time, they were affordable."
Prices range from a single item move costing around $45 to a three bedroom house move costing around $350.
Move 24/7 also offers just labor help for people just needing an extra set of hands.
The company is already in one other market in North Carolina and has plans to expand across the country.
