NEVADA, Iowa - A bus driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run accident that killed an Iowa State student will receive a 30-day jail sentence.
Benjamin Clague, 24, was scheduled to stand trial starting Tuesday for the hit-and-run death of 18-year-old Emmalee Jacobs in December. On Monday, Clague pleaded guilty to failure to report an accident, a simple misdemeanor. As part of a plea deal, Clague will be sentenced to 30 days in jail, with credit for time already served, and will pay a $100 fine. All other charges in the case are being dismissed.
Investigators said Clague was driving a Cy-Ride bus that struck Jacobs as she was crossing Lincoln Way at Ash Avenue in Ames. An Iowa State University found Jacobs in the street and she later died from her injuries.
