Rally Wednesday to Protest Prisoner’s Treatment

DES MOINES, Iowa — A rally is being held in Des Moines Wednesday on behalf of an Iowa prison inmate.

Terrance Sayles is serving time at the Iowa State Penitentiary for drug-related and firearms convictions.

A press release announcing the rally claimed Sayles was sprayed in the face with pepper spray after requesting medical car, then assaulted by guards – who he says forced his head in the toilet of his cell.

Sayles mother also told the Des Moines Register he was repeatedly abused.

Officials have yet to comment specifically on the allegations.

Wednesday his family and friends, along with the Des Moines Workers’ Alliance and the Des Moines Catholic Worker, are gathering outside the Department of Corrections for a rally. They hope their efforts bring a stop to prison brutality.

The rally begins at 3:00 p.m.
