DES MOINES, Iowa -- The Iowa State Fair kicks off Thursday and one of the big draws to the state fair year after year are the rides.
On Wednesday, all 50-plus rides were being checked and double checked for safety.
Five state inspectors from the Iowa Division of Labor spend several hours checking each ride.
With complex rides like the Slingshot, inspectors say it's all about attention to detail.
“You make sure that all the cotter pins are in the place their supposed to be, there's some lubrication that has to be maintained. If you get in real close you can see there's fresh grease in there, so they lubricate this to the specifications that are part of the daily maintenance of the ride,” said Division of Labor Manager Jim Borwey.
Inspectors say so far, they haven't found anything major and have been making routine repairs.
