One Person Killed After Car Crashes into Home, Garage Collapses

DES MOINES, Iowa – One person is dead after a car crashed into a Des Moines home Thursday afternoon.

Crews responded to the home in the 2600 block of East Sheridan Avenue shortly after 3:45 p.m. after a car traveling on Hubbell Avenue lost control and slammed into a garage. The garage then collapsed on the vehicle.

Two people were in the vehicle when the garage collapsed. A woman was pulled from the vehicle and was taken to an area hospital for treatment. The male driver was killed.

Two people were inside of the home at the time of the crash, they were not injured. Officials said the structure is not stable and the residents have been displaced.
