DES MOINES, Iowa — A man police say was fraudulently collecting donations in the name of the Iowa State Police Association has been arrested.
The investigation began in March after Des Moines police were notified Craig Wittick was soliciting donations from businesses under the guise of being associated with the ISPA.
Over a four-month investigation evidence was found that between 2014 and 2016 Wittick collected more than $15,000, allegedly on behalf of the ISPA. Police say none of the money was ever given to the ISPA by Wittick.
Police arrested Wittick August 1st. He faces charges of first degree theft, fraudulent practices, identity theft, forgery, second degree theft, and intellectual property counterfeiting.
Wittick is being held in the Polk County Jail on a bond of $52,000.
