The Polk County Sherriff’s Office has released more details on the deaths of a 2-year-old boy and his mother last month in Grimes.
On July 22, police responded to the scene of a Grimes home where officials found 2-year-old Mason Wyckoff dead and Mason’s mother, 33-year-old Stephenie Erickson, unresponsive. Erickson later died in the hospital.
On July 25, the Polk County Medical Examiner’s Office completed the autopsy of Mason and ruled his cause of death as acute oxycodone toxicity. Mason’s manner of death was ruled a homicide.
On July 29, the examiner’s office completed the autopsy of Erickson and ruled her cause of death also as acute oxycodone toxicity. Her manner of death was ruled a suicide.
Polk County Detectives along with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation are in the process of completing their investigation into this incident.
