Police Identify Victim in Sunday Des Moines Homicide

DES MOINES, Iowa — Des Moines police have released the name of a homicide victim found in a home Sunday morning.

Police say Phillip Gomez, 25, of Des Moines, was discovered in a home in the 600 block of East Euclid Sunday. He had been shot.

Earlier this week police arrested 25-year-old Alex Cosmo Marcelino in case. He is charged with first-degree murder.

Police originally classified it as a suspicious death but within several hours announced it was investigating the case as a homicide.

They say through interviews, detectives were able to learn more about what happened.

“Once we were able to get those folks down here and do some interviews and get some information out of them through talking to them, we were able to determine it was a homicide, someone did shoot him, and we were able to get that suspect identified,” said Des Moines Police Sgt. Paul Parizek.
