WILLIAMSPORT, Pennsylvania -- The Johnston All-Stars, representing Iowa and the Midwest, upset perennial power Chula Vista, California (West) in the opening round of the Little League World Series, 5-1.

J.T. Garcia hit a home run while ESPN interviewed his mother, Jen, who is fighting pancreatic cancer. It was a goosebump moment.

Iowa had lost 16 of 18 World Series games representing Midwest. (Both previous wins by Urbandale. Prior to Midwest, Iowa played in Central region and went 7-11 from 1957-2000).

Iowa plays Kentucky (Great Lakes) in the winner's bracket Sunday night at 6 p.m. on ESPN2.
