DES MOINES, Iowa -- Lieutenant Governor Kim Reynolds spoke Sunday at the Iowa State Fair for STEM Day.

STEM stands for science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

It aims to encourage kids to study in one of those areas...and build their skills into successful careers.

"We are hoping that you will have an opportunity to try a whole variety of things and figure out what you like, what your passionate about, what really excites you and i think then go for it," she said Sunday.

Nearly 25 organizations across the state were there.

"We are seeing the momentum has really increased just because the students are having these hands-on and engaging opportunities which allows them to become more interested in those fields," said Kristine Bullock, Southeast Iowa Regional STEM Manager. "Teachers are rethinking what they teach, our administrators are rethinking the curriculum they need and we are working with the businesses to make sure what we are doing is really in line with the track they are going on."
