State Patrol Identifies Victim in Iowa State Fair Stabbing

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Authorities are investigating a late-night stabbing at the Iowa State Fairgrounds.

It all started around 10:30 p.m. Sunday, just hours before the Iowa State Fair closed for the season. Police were called to the southwest corner of the fairgrounds.

There they found 18-year-old Darquan Jones of Des Moines, who had been stabbed. He was taken to Mercy Hospital for treatment. Officials say he is still in stable condition.

The investigation triggered a large police and state patrol presence. Viewers also tell us that rides in the area were shut down.

Law enforcement officers with the Des Moines Police Department, Iowa State Patrol, and Division of Criminal Investigation are now working together on the investigation. They believe the stabbing was not a random act.
