Child Seriously Injured Following Hit-and-Run in Des Moines

DES MOINES, Iowa - A six-year-old boy was seriously injured following a hit and run crash in Des Moines Tuesday morning.

The crash happened at about 11:45 a.m. at the intersection of 23rd Street and University Avenue just east of Drake University. Police said that a six-year-old boy was crossing University Avenue when he was struck by an SUV. The SUV fled the scene. A witness followed the SUV and was able to gather information about the vehicle to share with law enforcement.

Police said they located the SUV they believe was involved in the crash in Mercy Hospital parking ramp. The driver is being questioned by investigators.
