DES MOINES, Iowa — A motorcyclist was killed Monday night in a crash on Des Moines’ southwest side.
It happened just after 9:00 p.m. at the intersection of Southwest 12th and Army Post Road, which is a “T” intersection. That’s near the Army Post Surplus Store.
Police say witnesses told them a motorcycle struck a car at the intersection and the motorcyclist died on the scene.
For hours, crews kept the area blocked off, as they worked to clean up the wreckage.
One woman who came upon the crash just as fire crews were arriving says the scene was chaotic and filled with smoke.
“It was pretty intense…it was things that no kid should’ve seen walking around here. It kind of shows you people on motorcycles need to be careful of what they do and motorists need to be careful of what they do,” said witness Tami Milbrandt.
The driver of the car walked away with only minor injuries.
Police have not identified those involved in the accident but expect to release more information later Tuesday morning.
