Driver Charged Following Hit-and-Run That Injured Six-year-old Boy

DES MOINES, Iowa - The driver involved in a hit-and-run crash that injured a boy Tuesday morning is now facing charges.

Police said that Naomi MacDonald, 32, of Norwalk, has been charged with leaving the scene of a serious injury accident.

The crash happened at about 11:45 a.m. at the intersection of 23rd Street and University Avenue just east of Drake University. Police said that a six-year-old boy was crossing University Avenue when he was struck by an SUV. The SUV fled the scene. A witness followed the SUV and was able to gather information about the vehicle to share with law enforcement.

Police said they located the SUV in the Mercy Hospital parking ramp.

The boy is currently hospitalized with serious injuries but is expected to survive.
