Extra rain this last week and cooler nights helped out grain and pod fill according to the Iowa Crop Progress Report.
Ninety percent of the corn crop is at or passed the dough stage, 10 days ahead of the five-year average. Forty-five percent of the corn dented or beyond, six days ahead of last year and four days ahead of normal.
There were scattered reports of corn showing signs of maturity. Soybeans setting pods is at 92 percent, five days ahead of last year and four days ahead of normal. Three percent of beans are turning color and conditions are reported at 82 percent good or excellent.
