STORY COUNTY, Iowa -- The Iowa Department of Transportation released a video of an accident with the hope of using it as a teaching moment.

The video, captured on an Iowa DOT traffic camera, shows a Ford Taurus merge into traffic at the I-35/U.S. 30 interchange east of Ames.  The vehicle merges across two lanes of traffic directly into the side of a tractor-trailer.

Both drivers walked away with no injuries.

The Iowa DOT said its hoping the video can be used to show how quickly things can change if you're not paying attention behind the wheel.

"We really want people to understand that the way they drive matters. They have the biggest impact on their own and others safety on the roadway," says Andrea Henry with the Iowa DOT.

According to the accident the report, the driver of the Taurus was cited for failure to yield.
