A Hollywood star from Des Moines returned to her roots this weekend.
Gov. Terry Branstad introduced Cloris Leachman at the State Historical Museum Saturday.

The Oscar-winning actress is best remembered for her roles on the Mary Tyler Moore Show and the movie “The Last Picture Show.” She even took a turn on the ballroom floor recently for a season of Dancing with the Stars.

Leachman, who is now 90-years-old, spent time Saturday answering questions about her rise to fame.

“I don’t know how I got to Drake University… no one will never know….no one ever will know. I went to Drake University and got the part of the little princess in this dear little story and every Saturday you could of heard of me on KRNT or KSO, “ Leachman told the crowd.

Leachman is a graduate of Roosevelt High School.

Sunday night she’ll be at the Des Moines Social Club at the local theater awards, which are named in her honor. The event starts at 6:00 p.m.
