IDA COUNTY, Iowa — A western Iowa substitute teacher is facing charges for alleged sexual relationships with students.

The Iowa Department of Public Safety says John Tietsort, 32 of Battle Creek, is charged with two counts of sexual exploitation by a school employee and three counts of lascivious conduct with a minor.

The Ida County Sheriff’s Office says it was contacted in May by the Maple Valley-Anthon Oto Community High School about a possible inappropriate relationship between Tietsort and a current student.

During a joint investigation between the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and the Ida County Sheriff’s Office it was determined Tietsort, a long term substitute teacher, had sexual contact with a student from MVAO and a student from Odebolt-Arthur & Battle Creek-Ida Grove Schools several times during the spring of 2016.

Tietsort was arrested last Tuesday and was released the same day after posting a $5,000 bond. He is scheduled to make his next court appearance on September 1st.

Officials say Tietsort taught as a substitute teacher in the MVAO, OA-BCIG, and Ridge View school districts between January of 2013 and spring of 2016. If there are other students wishing to report inappropriate contact with Tietsort, they can contact the Ida County Sheriff’s Office at 712-364-3146.
