New Processor Paying For Water Treatment Updates

The County Supervisor Board in Wright County has approved a development agreement for a $240 million Prestage Foods pork processing plant south of Eagle Grove.
The board also approved a financing agreement for better roads and a waste water treatment facility for the new plant.
Ron Prestage the owner of Prestage foods is pleased with the decision and says it took a lot of work to get the agreement, "We had spent an awful lot of time in Wright County, meeting with business leaders, with supervisors, the economic development people, citizens that had an interest in what our proposal entailed and felt very comfortable that we had an overwhelming level of support."
To fix concerns of wastewater from the new facility, Prestage says Iowa already has code that will be followed. The plant will pretreat the water that leaves it and it will also help out the town with its system.
He says, "All wastewater treatment plants in the state of Iowa have a new standard that they must meet by 2020. The Eagle Grove plant is going to be upgraded and expanded to be in compliance with that requirement and it's going to be paid for by Prestage Farms."
The Wastewater treatment upgrades will also be expanded in anticipation of the nearly 900 full time workers that the plant intends to hire.
Groundbreaking for the plant is set up for 2017 and will take two years to finish.
