IOWA CITY, Iowa — The first half of the 64th all-time meeting between the Hawkeyes and Cyclones got out of hand quickly as favored Iowa headed into the halftime locker room with a comfortable 28-3 lead.
Hawkeye quarterback C.J. Beathard played perhaps the best half of football of his career, throwing three touchdowns and running for another. In addition to the four total scores, Beathard completed 11-of-14 passes for 153 yards.
Iowa tight end George Kittle, running back Akrum Wadley and wide receiver Matt VandeBerg each reeled in a touchdown from Beathard.
The Cyclones struggled to gain any traction in the first half on both sides of the ball and have only been able to put up three points on the board thus far.
Iowa State will receive the ball to start the second half.
