Federal legislators are taking a hard look at the giant agriculture consolidation going on.
Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley says September 20, there will be a hearing going over a bunch of the big agriculture mergers in the Senate Judiciary Committee
Representatives of Dow, DuPont, Syngenta, and now maybe Monsanto and Bayer will be there according to Grassley.
He says he wants to get everything out on the table, "But the most important thing is to put pressure on the Justice Department and the federal trade commission to make sure that our anti-trust laws are fully enforced and that mergers do not violate those anti-trust laws."
Grassley says anti-trust laws are written to protect the consumer.
The proposed mergers or buyouts could limit the opportunities of farmers.
