Police: Drunk Man Driving Stolen Vehicle Crashes Into Business During Chase

DES MOINES, Iowa -- A driver is being held in the Polk County Jail after leading Des Moines police on a chase through the metro.

It started around 9:00 p.m. Sunday when officers spotted 25-year-old Joe Vandermark driving a stolen vehicle. Officers tried to pull him over but he took off, leading police on a chase.

The chase ended when Vandermark crashed into a building on East 16th Street and Grand Avenue. Fortunately no one was injured in the crash.

Vandermark now faces charges of theft, eluding, 3rd offense operating while intoxicated, and driving while barred-habitual offender. His bond is set at $17,000.
