DES MOINES, Iowa — A Des Moines man and his mother are in the Polk County Jail after the man led law enforcement on a chase Thursday night that ended at his mother’s apartment building.
The Iowa State Patrol says Clarence Reed, 27 of Des Moines, is charged with eluding, driving while barred, and interference with official acts. Sgt. Nathan Ludwig also says Reed had warrants out for his arrest for escape from custody from the Fort Des Moines Work Release Facility and probation violations.
Officers tried to stop Reed around 11:11 p.m. Thursday night on a speed violation in I-235 near Easton Blvd. Reed refused to stop and took off, leading police and troopers on a chase that ended about 20 minutes later at 3700 Douglas.
Sgt. Ludwig says that’s where Reed jumped out of the vehicle in the parking lot of an apartment complex and took off on foot. Officers followed Reed to his mother’s apartment, where they kicked in the door to arrest him.
Reed’s mother Keeonis Williams, 42, fought with officers as they took her son into custody and she was arrested as well. She is charged with three counts of assault on a police officer, harassment of a public official, and interference with official acts.
Williams is being held on a bond of $15,600.
The Iowa State Patrol is continuing its investigation into the chase.
