Native American Coalition Stands in Solidarity Against Bakken Pipeline in Davenport

DAVENPORT, Iowa — In the Quad Cities, a group called the Native American Coalition spent Sunday afternoon standing in solidarity against the Bakken oil pipeline in Davenport.

The group is not only concerned about environmental issues from the crude oil pumping underground through the state but it’s also concerned the pipeline could go through parts of the Native American territory.

“They say it’s not going to leak but things rust and cells do break down,” said Josie Ironsheild. “It’s not if it’s going to leak, it’s when.”

Participants say Sunday’s event was a peaceful demonstration, not a protest.
