DES MOINES, Iowa -- The Polk County Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday morning to raise the minimum wage.

For months, a task force worked to decide on a plan that would raise the minimum wage in increments. They're recommending a hike to $8.75 in April then an increase of one dollar each year until it reaches $10.75 an hour.

Tuesday was the county supervisors' initial vote. It will take three votes before anything is finalized.

Three other Iowa counties have already passed similar increases.
