DES MOINES, Iowa — Downtown Des Moines will be a busy place Thursday as one presidential candidate makes a visit aimed at convincing Iowans to cast their ballots early.

On the first day of early voting in Iowa, Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton is holding a campaign rally at Cowles Commons at 221 Walnut Street.

Clinton’s event is scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. but doors open at 10:30 a.m. There’s no cost to attend but people are being asked to RSVP online.

Clinton is also getting a little help in Iowa from Hollywood Thursday. Actor Sean Astin, best known from the movies “Rudy” and “The Goonies,” is campaigning on Clinton’s behalf — holding events in Nevada, Grinnell, and Iowa City.
