DES MOINES, Iowa – A natural gas line was cut during construction Friday morning, shutting down part of Grand Avenue and causing some access issues for a local school.

A crew using a trencher outside of the American Red Cross building at 2116 Grand Ave. cut two gas lines around 9:30 a.m. MidAmerican Energy crews are on scene working to repair the gas lines.

Grand Avenue between Terrace Hill and 18th Street was closed for a while but has been re-opened.

Buses have been unable to access Central Academy because of the road closure but a representative for the school says busing began again around 10:45 a.m.
