STILLWATER, Oklahoma — It sounds like a broken record: Iowa State plays well for three quarters and builds a fourth quarter lead but can’t hang on.

That’s exactly what happened, again, on Saturday.

Iowa State built a 31-14 lead on Oklahoma State midway through the third quarter, but Oklahoma State scored 24 unanswered points to win, 38-31.

The loss drops ISU to 1-5 overall.

Iowa State racked up 448 yards of total offense but could only manage 23 in the fourth quarter. Joel Lanning played well as he threw for 190 yards and two touchdowns.

Trever Ryen had six catches for 74 yards and a touchdown while Allen Lazard also had six catches for 55 yards and two touchdowns. Mike Warren was held in check rushing for just 50 yards on nine carries.

Mason Rudolph threw for 351 yards and four touchdowns for the Cowboys.

Iowa State is on the road next week at Texas.
