DES MOINES, Iowa – A Des Moines man is being held in the Polk County Jail on a charge of attempted murder after police say he tried to strangle a woman with a shower curtain.

Police were called to 5216 South Union around 9:30 Thursday night after a witness called 911. The witness told officers she saw 33-year-old Michael Lajeunesse holding the victim down in a bathtub.

The victim told police Lajeunesse dragged her from the bedroom into the bathroom, punched and slapped her several times, and used a shower curtain to attempt to strangle her.

She said during the assault Lajeunesse said “Now I have to kill you” and “you are going to die tonight.”

The victim suffered bruised eyes, a cut to the forehead, and bruising all over her body.

Lajeunesse is being held without bond.
