ALTOONA, Iowa — Facebook is expanding again in Altoona.
The social media company announced Tuesday it will add “cold storage” to one of its three data center buildings. The expansion means an additional 100,000 square feet will be added to one of its buildings in Altoona.
The “cold storage” will preserve the photos of Facebook users. The company says it will make it possible for users to access older photos that are rarely viewed just as easily as those that are newer and viewed more frequently.
The construction on the facility is expected to continue employment for more than 350 construction workers until fall of 2017.
The Facebook data centers in Altoona currently employee 185 full-time workers.
