AMES, Iowa- Aldi opened a new store on south Duff in Ames. The new, larger building replaces the former store near Movies 12 in south Ames. The entrance to the store is off South 5th.

A long line of customers formed outside prior to the store opening. The first 100 customers would receive gift certificates from Aldi.

“The old store we opened up just 20 years ago,” said Mat Lilla. “The customers had grown so fond of the store, our business had gotten so big that we needed more space.”

Lilla said the new store on Duff is among more retailers and is more convenient. The company will also now be able to add new product lines, including organic and gluten-free lines.

“Just amazed by how welcoming the community is and how excited people are for this new store,” said Lilla. “They’ve grown accustomed to our older store, is just a step forward 20 years from when we built the last one.”
