MITCHELLVILLE, Iowa — The city of Mitchellville’s Police Chief is moving on after just over four years with the department.

Chief Kary Kinmonth submitted his resignation letter Thursday and plans for his last day to be January 8th, 2017. In Kinmonth’s letter he says he will be accepting the Police Chief position in West Liberty, Iowa.

Before becoming Mitchellville’s Chief of Police in 2012, Kinmonth had served as a police officer in Grinnell and had stints in the police departments of Epworth, Davenport, Maquoketa, and Bellevue before that.

Kinmonth says the new job offers him a chance to be closer to his family and further his law enforcement career.
