POLK COUNTY, Iowa — One person is behind bars following a short high-speed chase Tuesday night.
It started just after 7:30 p.m. when a State Trooper tried to stop a vehicle near Northeast 43rd and Northeast 3rd Street. Instead of pulling over the driver fled the scene, leading officers on a chase reaching speeds of nearly 100-miles-per hour.
Speeds got so high deputies eventually played it safe and called off the chase. The driver continued on, at one point hitting another vehicle and eventually crashing at Northeast 14th and Washington.
Deputies with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office say the driver, 26-year-old Alexander Brunker, ran from the crash but they were able to take him into custody. The female passenger in the vehicle was not arrested.
Brunker now faces multiple charges including eluding and carrying weapons.
