DES MOINES, Iowa – Bones that were found in Gray’s Lake in November have been confirmed as human, but police say they don’t appear to be linked to any foul play.

The bones were discovered by a kayaker on Thanksgiving morning. Among them was a jawbone that appeared to be human.

Sgt. Paul Parizek with the Des Moines Police Department says the Polk County Medical Examiner has confirmed the bones are human, but they believe the bones were from an educational cadaver.

Officials have not yet released what led them to that determination.
