DES MOINES, Iowa  —  Two weeks from today parents will be digging out from under a mountain of wrapping paper, cardboard boxes and tissue paper.

Metro Waste Authority says don’t throw it all in the trash, but don’t throw it all in the recycle bin, either.

They’ve posted a simple guide on what do with the most common holiday refuse: recycle, re-use or trash it.

All those boxes, catalogs and most wrapping paper goes in the recycle bin.  Christmas lights, ribbons and bows and toys aren’t recyclable but also don’t need to be trashed.   Try finding a new home for them through donation.  Plastic bags, plastic toy packages and tissue paper can be thrown in the trash.
