DES MOINES, Iowa  —  You can’t make a Christmas dinner without breaking a few eggs.  Thanks to Sparboe Companies and Fareway Stores, Inc there will thousands of eggs available on the shelves at the Food Bank of Iowa this holiday season.

On Friday the egg producer and grocery chain partnered to donate 21,600 dozen eggs to the Food Bank.  That’s 259,200 eggs.

The eggs will help fill out the Christmas wish list for food insecure families in Central Iowa.  The Food Bank says that eggs are the perfect donation.  They say food insecurity and obesity often go hand in hand because cheaper, less healthy foods often fill the diets of the needy.  Eggs are a lean protein that help you feel fuller for longer.
