    Metro officers caught a federal fugitive after a high speed chase through the metro Thursday. The chase began around 11:15 Thursday morning at 1411 East 33rd street in Des Moines.  After about 15 minutes, the driver ditched his vehicle near East 32nd street and Dubuque Avenue and ran away off.   • TODDLER DEATH: Toddler Crushed By TV Dies

    The mother of a metro toddler, injured when a TV fell on her last August, says her daughter hes died. Two-year-old Aleena Coe was playing in the living room of her Des Moines home at the time of the accident. Authorities say she sustained a massive head injury, when she pulled the large, older TV off its stand. Aleena’s mother says her daughter died Thursday morning in hospice care.

  • APE DEATH: Great Ape Trust Mourns Death

    Money problems and layoffs have plagued the Great Ape Trust over the past year, and now the facility is dealing with most devastating loss yet. Tuesday night, the trust lost one of its seven bonobos.  It is the fourth death at the facility since its opening in 2004.   • COURTHOUSE OPEN: Cedar Rapids Courthouse Opens

    This week the US District Courthouse officially opened for business in Cedar Rapids. The $182 million, 8-story structure is the replacement for the old building that flooded when water filled the downtown area in 2008. There are 175 tenants in the new building. The building also includes five state of the art courtrooms for the federal court system.
