I'm a graduate of Buena Vista University but grew up in northeast Iowa and spent my summers in northern Minnesota. I love spending time outdoors and playing for the Des Moines Women's Rugby Club.

    Iowa State Senator Battling Brain Tumor

    DES MOINES, Iowa — An Iowa state senator has revealed he’s been diagnosed with a brain tumor. Dr. Joe Seng released a statement saying the tumor was discovered last week and after testing it was confirmed Thursday. The tumor is in his left parietal lobe.     Sex Abuse Charges Filed Against Former School Employee

    POWESHIEK COUNTY, Iowa — The Iowa Department of Public Safety says a former employee of the Montezuma Community School District has been arrested for alleged sexual contact with two students. Twenty-eight-year-old Derek Bates is charged with two counts of third degree sexual abuse and one count of pattern, practice or scheme to engage in sexual exploitation by a school employee.     ADEL, Iowa — A Granger woman has been sentenced to up to 30 years in prison for setting a fire police say was intended to kill a man.       DES MOINES, Iowa — A former state lawmaker accused of accepting payments to change his support to a different presidential candidate in the 2012 election cycle has pleaded guilty to two federal charges.     Woman Hit by Van in Des Moines

    DES MOINES, Iowa — Emergency crews responded to a report of a pedestrian being hit by a vehicle Monday night. The call came in around 9:15 p.m. about the accident at 40th Place and Hickman.  Des Moines police say a woman in her 40s or 50s was crossing the street when she was hit by a white van.
