I’m a graduate of Buena Vista University but grew up in northeast Iowa and spent my summers in northern Minnesota. I love spending time outdoors and playing for the Des Moines Women’s Rugby Club.

    MAHASKA COUNTY, Iowa — A two-year-old girl is dead in Mahaska County after being found in a pond. A 911 call came in Tuesday around 6:44 p.m. about a child found unresponsive in a family pond. Emergency crews responded to a property in northern Mahaska County. CPR was performed on the scene before medical personnel arrived. The child was taken to the Mahaska Health Partnership where she was pronounced dead. The name of the child has not been released.

    NEWTON, Iowa — An inmate who escaped from the Newton Correctional Release Center Monday is back in custody.
