  • FALL COLORS: Upside To The Drought

    Fall started last week. And the leaves are trying to catch up.  In between the green you can find a few trees that are already showing oranges and yellows.  The Iowa Department of Natural Resources says the drought and heat caused some trees to lose their leaves early.  But now with cooler temperatures, the D-N-R says the Fall colors could last through October.

    The National Weather Service in Des Moines has issued a Red Flag Warning until 8 PM this evening for extreme fire conditions across northern Iowa.  A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions are forecast.     SCHOOL GARDEN: Des Moines Students Grow Vegatables

    Three Des Moines elementary schools are planting gardens this spring.  Helpers built garden beds at Smouse Elementary on Tuesday.  In about a week the kids will get their hands dirty planting outside. The school received a grant from the American Heart Association.  Teachers hope the gardens teach kids more about eating healthy.  Cowles and Captiol view also received grants to plant gardens this spring.
