Rate Cuts, Quality over quantitiy, and Suing God

Good Morning!

If you missed it this morning Jeriann’s Dad is back in the US safe and sound. She’ll be back for the evening shows tonight then back with us tomorrow morning.
To the news:

Rate Cuts
This is one that a lot of people have a hard time wrapping their brain around, or staying awake through, but the way the Fed sets interest rates effects most of us. The Fed is expected to lower key interest rates a quarter to a half a point. The idea is to east financial pressure on people who’ve borrowed money, have an adjustable rate mortgage, or high credit card debt. Hope it works.
Iowa Caucus Exhibit

We had a live guest from the State Historical Museum this morning talking about a project we’re helping with over at the Historical Museum. It will be covering everything caucus and it opens in a couple of weeks. The description and some of the renderings I’ve seen look really cool. Take a look at this video from the SHS site. If you’ve got family for friends coming to town who don’t understand, or would like to know more about the Caucuses…this will be the place to learn. It’s also going to act as a place for forums and debates leading up to the Caucuses.
Downtown Development

One of the Urban Planning consultants The City of Des Moines hired to help with the downtown is here again for meetings at the Downtown Library. One will be at 11:30 one at 4:30. This meeting is about tying together the development that’s gone on downtown. They’re trying to come up with a way to get people around the downtown area easily. This goes back to a point I’ve made here before. Hopefully, a transportation system of some sort would get people out of the mindset that they’re going downtown for one thing, then back home. If this really works it could allow someone to easily move from East Village, to Court Ave, to The Western Gateway quickly and conveniently.

Suing God

A Lawmaker in Nebraska filed a lawsuit against God. He was, reportedly, trying to make the point that anyone can sue anyone:
STATE SENATOR ERNIE CHAMBERS ACCUSES GOD OF CAUSING UNTOLD DEATH AND HORROR AND THREATENING TO CAUSE MORE.
THE OMAHA SENATOR, WHO SKIPS MORNING PRAYERS DURING THE LEGISLATIVE SESSION AND OFTEN CRITICIZES CHRISTIANS, BLAMES GOD FOR NATURAL DISASTERS AND IS SEEKING A PERMANENT INJUNCTION AGAINST HIM.
ANGERED BY ANOTHER LAWSUIT HE CONSIDERS FRIVOLOUS, CHAMBERS SAYS HE’S TRYING TO MAKE THE POINT THAT ANYBODY CAN FILE A LAWSUIT AGAINST ANYBODY.
I hear St. Peter called the lawsuit frivolous.

Fore the Kids

I was invited to play golf in the ChildServe golf outing and fundraiser yesterday and Echo Valley Country Club yesterday. First of all thanks to the people at Chidserve for putting on a great event. We shot a great score of 9 under par on a very windy day. I’m happy to report I was able to contribute and had a great time.
It’s time to go get some sleep. I want to be awake for the Noon show today. We’re going to have a visit from Hall of Fame Quarterback Joe Montana. Now I was never a 49ers fan, but I am a HUGE Notre Dame fan so when the lady called and asked if we’d be interested in having Joe on the show…it didn’t take long to give her an answer. I guess Montana found out he had high blood pressure later in his career and is going around the country to talk to people about managing that condition. He’s got a website he’s helping promote called The BP Success Zone. I imagine having someone like Joe Montana makes people listen. You can see the interview today at noon.

Update: 3:30…Home now and having a snack before a trip to the gym. I think this job is fun for a lot of reasons. I think some days it’s really fun. Meeting and getting a picture with Joe Montana was a great experience that I’ll remember for a long time.

I understand why Brad has stayed away from this blog, after all people were crossing the line quite a bit in previous blogs throughout this past year. But, there have really been some legit questions that aren’t even a little bit personal that I think would be nice to have Brad answer. Just a thought.

  • Patrick Dix

I hope you don’t feel like I’m avoiding the questions. I’ve asked Brad to post and between his radio duties and work with Habitat, he really hasn’t had any time to do it. I’ll ask again, but I will also say this…the comments that have come off this blog have not encouraged him to participate and I don’t blame him. Almost every post we’ve had to erase is about him. People wonder why we don’t share more…you might want to consider that.PWD

I can see what you mean, the traffic in this town is unlike any other. I’m sure Brad is so busy with all of it that he has no time to post.

  • Patrick Dix

Look the guy is on the radio from 5:30-9 and then again in the afternoon for a few hours plus he works a full time job at Habitat. I’m not saying he’s the busiest man in town but lay off.

Agree with anonymous…How many silly litle traffic problems are there in this city? I’ve lived in about a dozen other cities, and this city, has NO traffic. What a ridiculous job. He’s also comes off pompous to boot.I don’t need to hear anything about him, or traffic. He’s a waste.

  • Patrick Dix

and I can’t imagine why he doesn’t want to jump into this lovefest and embrace the blog….If you don’t use the traffic don’t listen… I get more comments on that than anything else we do. Is it Chicago? No, Is it even KC not close, but people in this town plan their commute to the minute. I think that’s why people get in a twist about an accident on 235. 10 minutes more on your commute is ten minutes no one plans on. Also if you think about it, what’s the longest metro commute….20 minutes? Add 10 on to that and it’s a 50% longer commute. It’s like living in Chicago and your normal two hours from the burbs goes to three. That’s significant, just on a smaller scale. It’s all relative. But lay off of Brad. He’s a good guy and we like having him around. Glad we could all find the time in our busy day to keep posting about some else’s job being such light work. I love our anonymous posters.

I don’t care if Brad is the busiest guy in town or sits on his behind surfing the internet all day long. If he wants to blog, he will. If he is tired of all of the petty comments that people continue to post, then he’s probably going to avoid it altogether.I, for one, don’t blame him. He’s a good guy that doesn’t stoop low enough to partake in all of this. You people need to get over your obsession with him and get a life of your own!M

Look jerko! You might not care about traffic in this podunk town, but I do.Secondly, anyone I’ve ever met involved with a charity has never been pompous.Get a life and stop sniping at such easy targets. I’d love to know who the heck u are and blog about you!A very upset Lenore.

WHY ON EARTH IS HE BEAT UP SO MUCH ON THIS BLOG?I read this daily, and I cannot stand why people are so damn smitten or hostile with him.I hope he doesn’t read this, for his sake.Lisa T.

I love your Joe picture! I met him today too at Iowa Health – Des Moines. Very nice guy and how exciting to meet a legend like that. Go Irish!

I agree Brad is an extremely busy man. I also feel he is an extrememly giving person, or he wouldn’t be on air for us every morning and afternoon. Pat, is it possible to ask him the specific traffic questions that do pop up from time to time on here? And then he can give you the answer to the question to post?

  • Anonymous

I bet Jerrianne’s the one making all the negative comments about Brad. She makes it pretty clear she doesn’t like him.

  • Anonymous

I like the idea about Pat posting for Brad. That way he doesn’t have to answer to all of the “junk blogs” that people continue to write, but we could also get our traffic questions answered.Good idea, Anon!
