Trippin’ with Joe

Rob Hubler doesn’t have numbers in his favor in his bid to unseat Republican Congress Steve King in Iowa’s 5th District. There are far more “r’s” than “d’s”. Hubler hopes Joe Trippi will change that. The release is below, but first a little history. A quick search on-line shows Trippi has worked on the Presidential campaigns of Ted Kennedy, Walter Mondale, Gary Hart, Dick Gephardt, Howard Dean and John Edwards. Good thing Hubler isn’t running for President, huh?

Here’s the release:

COUNCIL BLUFFS – Joe Trippi, a nationally-recognized consultant who helped lead the internet revolution in American politics, will be the primary media consultant for the Rob Hubler for Congress campaign, it was announced by the Hubler campaign.
Hubler, Democratic candidate for Congress in Iowa’s 5th district, said that Joe Trippi & Associates will advise his campaign on internet strategy and message development in addition to producing broadcast media ads.
“Our campaign has begun to attract national interest and support on the internet and Joe Trippi’s counsel is sure to help us increase our visibility and fundraising through the internet,” said Hubler. “We are delighted that Joe and his staff will be working with us as we offer western Iowans new leadership and real representation in Congress.”

It’s not all riding on Trippi, although his history is more impressive than you would admit. He is the godfather of the internet campaign and a brilliant, creative strategist. He wouldn’t be coming to Iowa if he thought it was a lost cause. The indies in Iowa-5 will decide this election. Do you think some of them might be embarrassed by being represented by a national laughingstock? King seems thrilled when his antics make the Washington Post, (put it up on his site). He doesn’t even get it that they’re making fun of him for being such a doofus.

I have been on the same side as Trippi in presidential campaigns here in Iowa and I’ve been on different sides. Given the choice, I’d rather have him on my side than working against me.He will serve Hubler well and help him raise enough money across the country from people who loathe King — for a lot of good reasons — that he will pull the upset of the year. If you’d like to help end th eembarrassment, go to http://www.hublercongress.com and join the retire King movement.

Hubler has a chance, not just because of Steve King’s embarrassing antics, but because King doesn’t represent a majority of people in his district. King continually votes against the interests of many of his constituents on issues like raising the minimum wage, children’s health care, Medicare reimbursement, college assistance, reducing prescription drug prices, reducing gasoline prices by using the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, and even protecting the U.S. from terrorism by implementing the 9/11 Commission recommendations. The more people learn about King’s record, the more likely they are to vote for Hubler.

I don’t think Dave is implying Trippi is no good. But let’s be honest, Trippi’s overall winning percentage is worse than the Kansas City Royals. He’s smart with internet marketing. But it hasn’t helped enough to win the actual race. Isn’t that what matters?

Hey you Kinghaters. You ain’t got a chance this fall. King may get a little crazy with his words sometimes. But he is a smart guy.

I’m not aware of Trippi doing anything other than bringing us Howard Dean the Ultimate Divider.Me thinks he’s working for Hubler because no one else would hire him.His best gig is this one? What’s the rest of the story?
