SCHOOL BOARD: The Des Moines school board has chosen a replacement for departing member Patty Link

The state's biggest school district welcomed a new board member Friday.

The Des Moines school board selected Joe Jongewaard to join the crew. He was selected from a pool of three finalists.

In his past, Jongewaard served as an aide to former governor Tom Vilsack and U.S. Senator Tom Harkin. Most recently, he served as a project manager at the Iowa Department of Economic Development.

Jongewaard will serve on the school board for the remainder of Patty Link's term which ends in September of 2013.
