Police say that a man involved in a fatal crash was drunk behind the wheel when the crash occurred, but that his drunk driving was not responsible for the crash.

The crash occurred Monday night in Pella when 16 year old Blake Van Vark lost control of his car and crossed into the path of an oncoming truck.

The driver of the truck, 60 year old Kenneth Swank, was then charged with an OWI at the scene of the accident.

However, police don’t think that Swank could have avoided the accident even if he had been sober.

Friends and family of Van Vark were shocked to find out the news that the other driver had been intoxicated at the time of the crash.

Funeral services for Van Vark will be held this Saturday, February 18, at the Third Reformed Church in Pella.
