Local egg farmers donated more than 108,000 eggs to the Food Bank of Iowa Wednesday.

It’s all part of a nationwide effort to give away nearly 12-million eggs.

Food bank officials say this donation will help the 1 in 8 Iowans who are food insecure.

Ross Dean, with Centrum Valley Farms says, “The USDA put eggs as heart healthy food now, it’s nutrient dense in protein, choline and folate, it’s about 75 calories per egg, but it’s the densest form of protein we have out there in America right now.”
