Governor Branstad signed a bill Thursday that will change the Iowa code.

In the bill, the terms “Mental Retardation” and “Mentally Retarded” will no longer be used.

The phrases will now be changed to “Intellectually Disabled”.

This is part of a nationwide effort to get rid of the “r-word” in everyday language.
