Iowa born restaurant franchise Maid-Rite is adding 22 more restaurants across the nation.

The restaurant chain started in 1926 in Muscatine, Iowa.

Now the chain is expanding in states that never had a Maid-Rite like Florida, Utah, North Carolina and Ohio.

The new stores mean Maid-Rite will have 74 restaurants in 14 states.

President and CEO Bradley Burt says the economy bouncing back has been good for the chain.

He says now they’re seeing more baby boomers opening up stores post-retirement.

Officials say many of the new restaurants are being built by Iowa natives that moved away, and wanted to start a maid-rite store in their own city.

"Those areas have a lot of Iowans that live there and know us, so it's very exciting for us to be in new geographic areas we've never been in before and they're having great success a lot of people are coming in and we're looking for further expansion all over the country,” says Burt.

11 of the new restaurants will open this year, those include new facilities in Webster City and Chicago.
