Spring felt like summer in Iowa on Sunday.

“You expect the heaters on not the air conditioning at night.   This is absolutely gorgeous beautiful weather, you can`t ask for anything better,” says Betty Hagen.

Hagen is visiting from Wisconsin.  She and her family are camping out at Des Moines West KOA.  The campgrounds near Adel officially opened for business on Sunday.

“Most people aren't typically ready to go yet at this time for the most part.  The weather is just so fantastic, we're getting people out early and excited about having an early season,” says owner Chris Rademacher.

The April 1st start date usually leaves enough time to get the campgrounds spruced up and ready for visitors.  But this isn't a typical start to the camping season.

“It's unbelievable weather.  Absolutely beautiful,” says Denny Iglehart.

He and his family spent the weekend at Walnut Woods State Park.  Iglehart says the park isn`t officially taking reservations until next week.  But they couldn’t pass up the summer like temperatures.

“For our initial camping trip this spring, we stuck close to home and we like it real well here,” says Iglehart.

Campers couldn’t ask for a better start to the season.

“Last year we got snow this time of year so it's totally different,” says Rademacher.
