West Des Moines Police are investigating a counterfeit ring operating in the metro.

Hundreds of dollars-worth of bogus $20 bills have turned up at Jordan Creek Town Center, Merle Hay Mall, and Southridge Mall.

Police say the suspects would buy merchandise with counterfeit money at one mall, and then return it at another mall in order to exchange the fake bills for the real thing.

Police are yet to make an arrest in the most recent cases but say 20-year-old Devin Overton is considered a suspect. He was arrested last month on forgery charges involving counterfeit money.
